Techniques Used at Heller Chiropractic

Based on your individual needs, the doctors at Heller Chiropractic will custom-tailor a treatment plan for you using some or all of the following techniques:

  • Low-force adjustments. Low-force adjustments are a safe and gentle way to adjust the spine, cranium and visceral organs. They include cranio-sacral, visceral manipulation, counter-strain, muscle energy, myofascial release, arthro-stim and percussor methods. We focus primarily on low-force adjustments, however we also do traditional chiropractic adjustments when needed.

  • Massage therapy. Therapeutic massage helps release muscle tension − and it feels great too!

  • Laser therapy. Laser therapy uses light to speed up the healing of damaged tissues.

  • Micro-current stimulation. This form of electrical acupuncture uses specific electrical frequencies applied to different parts of the body to help heal the tissues.

  • Scenar electro-stim. A Russian electrical stimulator, the scenar is our latest favorite tool. This handheld device houses a sophisticated computer that uses biofeedback from the skin to locate pain hot spots. Once the hot spots are found, the scenar then emits a gentle current to release the soft tissue.

  • Cranio-sacral therapy. Cranio-sacral therapy gentle manipulates the cranial bones and muscles to ease restricted nerve passages and allow unobstructed movement of the cerebrospinal fluid.

  • Rehabilitation exercises. Rehabilitation exercises teach your body new ways of holding itself. We’ll guide you through the right exercises for different stages of your healing − teaching you stretching, core stabilization, strengthening and micro-movement − without overwhelming you.

  • Soft tissue release. Used by both the doctors and the massage therapists at Heller Chiropractic, soft tissue therapies encourage tense muscles to release their tight hold. Sometimes they need strong stimulation with deep tissue massage or the Graston technique; other times gentler methods such as soft massage or myofascial release are needed.

  • Kinesio tape. A marvelous form of taping, Kinesio tape is a comfortable, waterproof, non-latex rehabilitative tape applied over and around the muscles. It re-educates the neuromuscular system, promotes lymphatic flow, reduces pain, enhances performance, prevents injury and promotes injury resolution.

  • Graston technique. This technique utilizes special stainless steel massage instruments to break down tissue adhesions and stimulate the healing of old injuries.

We are always educating ourselves about the latest advances in pain management, so this list will continue to grow.
