New! July 2011 - Marc Heller is among the first 12 chiropractors certified by the state of Oregon to practice myofascial dry needling. Dry needling, using thin, solid, (acupuncture style) needles in muscle fascia and joint areas, is a new and exciting way to help reduce your pain, break the pain cycle and help your tissues relax and heal. The needles are almost painless and the therapy is a big advance.

1. What can I expect my first appointment to be like?
First your doctor will discuss your problems and concerns with you. Next he will perform a detailed exam to gather more information. Your doctor may order x-rays or other tests if he feels it is necessary. After examining you, he will explain what the problem is and how to best treat your condition. The two of you will then discuss a treatment plan and any questions you may have.

2. Will chiropractic hurt?
Usually not. People can occasionally be sore as their bodies move towards a healthier state.

3. Is chiropractic safe?
Yes.

4. Why should I choose Heller Chiropractic?
We are well known for our gentle approach using state of the art services and techniques. We happily integrate with traditional medicine and receive many referrals from other doctors in the community. We empower people by teaching them how to take care of themselves and how to become independent. In addition, we have a combined experience of over 36 years dedicated to serving this community.

5. What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic includes but is not limited to; the holistic study of the musculoskeletal (muscles, joints, bones, ligaments, tendons and fascia) and nervous systems. Chiropractors deal with the health of these systems and how they interact with the body.

6. What does chiropractic treat?
Chiropractic treats more than just low back and neck pain. Other common conditions treated by a chiropractor are; Headaches, whiplash, numbness and tingling, body stiffness, shoulder problems, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, hip problems, knee problems, foot and ankle problems and more.

7. What training does a chiropractor possess?
Training to become a chiropractor requires four years at an accredited school after meeting basic educational requirements. National and state board tests are taken as well as at least 20 hours of continuing education per year. A graduate is given a Doctorate in Chiropractic degree.

8. Do I have to see a medical doctor before seeing a chiropractor?

No. In the state of Oregon, chiropractors are licensed primary care physicians.

9. Are chiropractors licensed health care professionals?
Yes.

10. Is chiropractic care expensive?
Chiropractic care is very affordable compared to other professions. Not only can it save you money – it can often save you other costly medical procedures.

11. Does my insurance cover it?
We are providers for many panels. Just ask the front desk to see if you are covered.

12. Can a person see a chiropractor after they have had back surgery?
Yes! Especially in our office – where we utilize the most up to date procedures that are safe even for post-operative patients.

13. Is it OK to see a chiropractor if I’m pregnant?
Yes. Chiropractic can be very beneficial for pregnant moms.

14. What is that “popping” sound?
Sometimes this occurs and sometimes it doesn't. It is simply nitrogen gas being released from the joint. It is harmless if done properly.

15. Does a chiropractor have to “pop” your bones?
No. In fact, in our office that is just one of dozens of ways to do things. You and your doctor will determine which ways are best for your body.

16. How many people see chiropractors?
About 20 million people each year.

17. How often do I have to be seen?
This will depend on the severity and type of condition you have. People also heal at different rates of speed, so you and your doctor will discuss a treatment plan that’s right for you. Some people elect to use chiropractic as part of a preventative health strategy, while others choose our services for immediate problems. People often use our services for performance reasons (athletes, weekend warriors, hikers, etc.,). At our office we pride ourselves on results and treat with that purpose in mind.
